A MOUNTAIN ELOPEMENT ON THE SKYWAY, MONT BLANC, COURMAYEUR
An adventure elopement in the heart of the Italian Alps
When MK and Shane first reached out, they simply knew they wanted to elope in Italy—somewhere in the mountains, somewhere peaceful, somewhere unforgettable. What they didn’t know yet was that their journey would take them to the very top of Mont Blanc, experiencing one of the most breathtaking mountain elopements the Italian Alps can offer. Their intimate day on the Skyway Monte Bianco, surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Aosta Valley, became one of our most memorable elopements of the season.

“Benni and Carol exceeded every expectation – truly the best! From the very first call we had with them, we could see their passion for what they do. They were warm, professional, and highly attentive to our vision. We had an idea of what our day might look like but they really helped us to bring it to life and take it to the next level! Their preparation and local insight made all the difference in choosing the perfect locations.
Their passion for storytelling shines through in every image—they captured not just moments, but emotions, details, and the true essence of our day. With us both being relatively camera shy, they made us feel completely at ease in front of the camera, and their documentary style meant we got to relive all the joy, laughter, and little moments we might have otherwise missed.
Benni and Carol went above and beyond to help us have a day we will treasure forever and we can’t thank them enough! We can’t wait to meet up with you and catch up next time we are in Italy!
Sincerely,
Shane and MK”

A MOUNTAIN ELOPEMENT IN THE AOSTA VALLEY
Why Steer Away from the Dolomites
When couples think of eloping in the Italian Alps, the Dolomites are often the first destination that comes to mind. And while the Dolomites are strikingly beautiful, we will never stop reminding our couples that Italy is home to countless other, equally spectacular mountain regions—many of which offer far more privacy, authenticity and peace. We talk extensively about this in our Comprehensive Guide to Planning an Elopement in the Italian Alps.
In recent years, the Dolomites have become highly affected by overtourism. Depending on the season, certain locations now involve crowded trails, queues for viewpoints, and an overall loss of the intimacy that true mountain-lovers crave. This is especially significant for an elopement day, when couples seek connection, stillness, and freedom—not traffic jams or lineups for photos.
For this reason, we’ve been dedicating our effort to raising awareness about alternative elopement destinations in Italy. There are hundreds of mountains, valleys, and secluded areas within the Italian Alps that remain untouched, quiet, and incredibly beautiful. Places where you can still feel the magic of nature.
So when MK and Shane trusted our guidance and chose to leave the popular hotspots behind, embracing the off-the-beaten-path landscapes of the Aosta Valley, we couldn’t have been happier.

A MOUNTAIN ELOPEMENT ON THE SKYWAY, MONT BLANC
The Aosta Valley is a dream for anyone who loves the outdoors. From trekking and trail running to climbing, canyoning, and winter sports — this region is the playground of the Italian Alps. Home to Europe’s highest peaks, it is dominated by the majestic Mont Blanc, one of the most extraordinary backdrops for a mountain elopement in Italy.
MK and Shane wanted a full mountain experience while keeping their day relaxed and stress-free. The Skyway Monte Bianco was the perfect choice: a futuristic rotating cable car that departs from Courmayeur and reaches two panoramic stations with uninterrupted views of the Mont Blanc massif.
Their elopement morning began with a relaxed preparation and first look at the stunning Luxury Hotel Relais Mont Blanc, the perfect setting for an elopement in Courmayeur.

We then headed to the Skyway Monte Bianco, which was only a short drive away from MK & Shane’s stunning hotel. We took the incredible chairlift, only to find ourselves shortly after exploring the highest botanical garden in Europe, discovering terraces overlooking endless glaciers, reaching Punta Helbronner for some snowy portraits, and soaking in the dramatic mountain scenery. Honestly, we were all in awe..
After leaving the Skyway, we made our way to a quiet, hidden corner of the valley—a place away from any crowds, where the mountains felt close enough to touch.
AN INTIMATE EXCHANGE OF VOWS WITH VIEWS OF THE ITALIAN ALPS
To create a truly intimate elopement in the Italian Alps, we chose a secluded field overlooking 360° of mountain peaks. No tourists, no noise, no interruptions—just the raw beauty of nature and the vastness of the Aosta Valley. Here, surrounded by silence, MK and Shane exchanged their emotional vows.
Right after, the weather shifted, bringing an unexpected mountain rain. Rather than rushing for cover, they embraced it. They danced, laughed, and fully lived the moment—turning a sudden change in weather into one of the most unforgettable memories of their day.
The celebration continued with a laid-back picnic and an exploration of some of our favourite secret locations. It was, in every way, the perfect mountain elopement.
ELOPEMENT PLANNERS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS IN ITALY
Why working with local experts matters
This may sound like a marketing pitch, but it truly isn’t: choosing a local elopement planner and photographer makes all the difference—particularly when you’re dreaming of an off-the-beaten-path mountain elopement in Italy.
When we plan an elopement, we tailor every detail to our couple’s desires, while offering all our local knowledge and expertise. We guide couples toward meaningful, sustainable choices—avoiding crowded locations, supporting responsible travel, and helping them experience the real Italian Alps, not just the well-known Instagram spots.
Flexibility is also essential when planning a mountain elopement in Italy. Weather changes quickly in the Alps, and being able to adjust plans is crucial. With MK and Shane, we waited two days for the right weather window. To make the most of their time in the region, we took them on one of our favourite hikes to a hidden glacier lake—an incredible place for extra photos and a beautiful way to deepen their connection with the mountains (and with us!).
These two days with them are memories we will truly treasure.

FAQs About Planning a Mountain Elopement on Mont Blanc
1. Can you elope on Mont Blanc?
Yes, you can elope on Mont Blanc, and it is one of the most breathtaking mountain elopement locations in Italy. Most couples choose to experience the Skyway Monte Bianco, which takes you up to spectacular viewpoints such as Punta Helbronner for portraits, before heading to a quieter location in the Aosta Valley for their vow exchange.
2. Is the Aosta Valley a good alternative to the Dolomites for an elopement?
The Aosta Valley is one of the best alternatives to the Dolomites for couples seeking a more peaceful and authentic mountain elopement in Italy. While the Dolomites have become extremely busy in recent years, the Aosta Valley offers equally dramatic scenery, higher peaks, and a far more intimate atmosphere—ideal for elopements.
3. What is the best time of year to elope on Mont Blanc?
June to September is the best period for a Mont Blanc elopement. Early summer offers snow-capped views and fresh greenery, while late summer and early autumn provide stable weather and clearer trails. Winter elopements are also possible but require more flexibility due to snow and accessibility.
4. Do you need a permit to elope on the Skyway Monte Bianco?
No special wedding permit is typically required to take photos on the Skyway Monte Bianco, but tickets must be purchased in advance, especially in peak season. For more secluded vow exchanges, your photographer and planner can recommend accessible and legal locations in the Aosta Valley.
5. Can we legally marry during a mountain elopement in Italy?
Yes, you can have a legal civil ceremony in Italy, but it requires paperwork, timelines and the presence of an authorised venue or registrar. Many couples choose to complete the legal paperwork at home and enjoy a symbolic ceremony in the mountains, giving them full freedom over the location. Check out all the legal requirements in our Comprehensive Guide to Elope in Italy.
6. How difficult is the terrain for a Mont Blanc elopement?
The Skyway Monte Bianco makes the experience accessible to most couples, as it lifts you directly into the high alpine landscape. If you want a more adventurous experience—like hiking to a glacier lake—your planner will help select routes that match your fitness level and the time of year.
7. Why hire a local elopement planner and photographer in the Italian Alps?
A local planner-photographer team understands weather patterns, trail conditions, legalities and how to avoid crowded viewpoints. They can guide you toward lesser-known mountain locations that are quieter, more beautiful and perfectly suited to an intimate elopement experience.
8. Is overtourism a concern in the Dolomites?
Yes. Certain areas of the Dolomites experience significant overtourism, especially in Summer, which can impact the sense of intimacy couples seek for their elopement. This is why many couples now choose alternative alpine regions such as the Aosta Valley or the Western Italian Alps.
9. What should we pack for a mountain elopement in Northern Italy?
Layers are essential. Bring warm outerwear, waterproofs, hiking shoes, sunscreen, and something cosy for early morning or sunset sessions. Weather in the mountains changes quickly, so being well-prepared ensures you can fully enjoy the experience.
10. How much does it cost to elope in the Italian Alps?
Costs vary depending on the level of adventure, accommodation, transport and wedding services. Most couples investing in a mountain elopement in the Italian Alps can expect a budget similar and even smaller than a typical elopement in Italy, with planning + photography packages providing the main structure of the costs.
