How Much Does It Cost to Elope in Italy? A Complete Breakdown

There is no fixed cost to elope in Italy. A simple, mostly self-planned elopement can cost well below €8,000, while €9,000–€18,000+ is a useful planning range for a professionally planned, experience-led elopement. Celebrations involving private venues, multi-day experiences, more elaborate florals or complex logistics can easily reach €18,000–€30,000+.

The biggest difference is what is actually included. An elopement in Italy can mean travelling as a couple, exchanging vows somewhere beautiful and hiring a photographer for a few hours. It can also include full planning and photography, hair and makeup, florals, a celebrant, private transport, boat hire, a private venue and several days of experiences.

This guide breaks down those costs so you can understand what different types of elopements in Italy can realistically cost, where the money goes, and which choices have the biggest impact on your overall budget.

Type of elopement experience
Realistic planning range
Simple / mostly self-planned
Under €8,000 is entirely possible
Professionally planned, experience-led
Around €9,000–€18,000+
Private venue / elaborate / multi-day
€18,000–€30,000+

These are general planning ranges, not package prices. The final cost can vary considerably depending on your destination, season, ceremony type, accommodation and the suppliers and experiences you choose.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE COST TO ELOPE IN ITALY?

There isn’t one particularly meaningful average cost for an elopement in Italy because the term can describe very different experiences.

A couple planning everything themselves, choosing a free or low-cost ceremony location and hiring only a few suppliers can spend well below €8,000. At the other end of the spectrum, a more elaborate elopement involving a private venue, several days of experiences, boats, drivers or more extensive styling can cost €18,000–€30,000+.

Rather than planning around a national “average”, it is more useful to decide what you want your experience to include and build your budget around those priorities.

What Does an Italy Elopement Budget Actually Include?

Looking at the overall budget is only useful if you understand what is included in it. Two couples can both elope in Italy and spend completely different amounts depending on the experience they create.

For some couples, the main costs are simply travel, accommodation and photography. Others choose to add full planning, professional hair and makeup, florals, a celebrant, private transport, boat hire, a private ceremony location, a special dinner or several days of activities.

This is also why comparing elopement prices online can be misleading: one figure may refer only to photography, while another may include planning and suppliers, and another may represent the couple’s entire trip and experience.

Below, we’ve broken down the main costs you may want to consider when planning an elopement in Italy.

Once you add a guest group and need a private venue, catering and additional event logistics, the budget changes considerably. You can see real examples in our Small Weddings in Italy guide .

1. Accommodation

Accommodation is one of the costs that varies most depending on where in Italy you elope, the time of year and the type of property you choose. A countryside agriturismo can cost considerably less than a luxury hotel overlooking Lake Como or the Amalfi Coast.

As a general indication, you might expect:

Tuscany agriturismi: €120–€300+ per night
Amalfi Coast hotels: €250–€1,000+ per night
Lake Como boutique hotels: €200–€600+ per night
Sicily accommodation: €100–€350+ per night

These are indicative accommodation ranges rather than fixed prices. Rates can change considerably according to season, exact location, room category and how far in advance you book.

2. Photography & Planning

Photography and planning are often one of the largest parts of a professionally planned elopement budget, but prices can vary considerably depending on coverage, the level of planning involved, the destination and whether the services are booked separately or together.

We combine photography and planning in our own elopement packages, so couples work with the same team from the first stages of planning through to the wedding day.

Our current Photography + Planning packages for most of Italy start at €7,600 for 4 hours, while Full Day Photography + Planning starts at €8,600.

Our Western Italian Alps packages have their own dedicated pricing, with Photography + Planning currently starting from €7,000 for 4 hours and €8,000 for Full Day Photography + Planning.

3. Hair, Makeup & Flowers

Hair, makeup and florals can vary considerably depending on the destination, the supplier you choose and whether travel, trials or additional styling are required.

Bridal hair & makeup: around €400–€900+
Bouquet + boutonnière: around €200–€500+

Premium destination hair and makeup artists can charge €1,000+, particularly when travel, very early starts, trials or extended assistance are involved. More elaborate floral designs, ceremony arrangements and installations can also increase the floral budget considerably.

For an elopement, however, you don’t necessarily need extensive floral decoration. Many couples choose a beautiful bouquet and boutonnière and let the landscape or architecture provide the setting.

4. Ceremony Fees: Symbolic vs Civil

The cost of your ceremony depends enormously on whether you choose a symbolic or legally binding civil ceremony.

Symbolic Ceremony

A symbolic ceremony has no legal or administrative fee in itself. You may be able to exchange vows somewhere accessible for free, or you may choose a private venue or location that charges a fee. If you hire a professional celebrant, this is a separate cost.

As a general guide, a professional celebrant in Italy may cost around €500–€1,000+, depending on the destination, travel and the level of personalisation involved.

Civil Ceremony

There is no useful single price for a civil ceremony in Italy. Fees are set locally and can vary dramatically according to the municipality, ceremony venue, residency or citizenship and sometimes the day and time of the ceremony.

In some towns, the municipal fee may be a few hundred euros. In highly sought-after locations it can run into several thousand euros. For example, civil ceremonies for couples resident abroad in Florence currently start at €2,500 in some municipal venues and can exceed €5,000 in others.

If having a legally binding ceremony in Italy is important to you, we recommend checking the current official fee and requirements for your chosen municipality before building your budget around it.

Paperwork and legal requirements vary depending on your nationality and the municipality where you marry, and may involve additional costs for documents, legalisation, translations or an interpreter. For a full explanation of the legal requirements and paperwork for international couples, see our Ultimate Guide to Eloping in Italy.

5. Travel & Logistics

Travel and transport costs depend heavily on where you choose to elope and how much you want to include in the day. In some destinations you may need very little private transport, while in others drivers, boats or transfers between locations can become a significant part of the budget.

Private transfers and drivers are particularly useful in areas where public transport is limited or where your elopement involves several locations. The final cost will depend on the distance, number of hours, vehicle and destination.

Boats and other private experiences are best considered destination-specific costs rather than standard elopement expenses. On Lake Como, for example, a private boat can cost a few hundred euros for a shorter experience and €1,000+ for longer or more premium charters.

You may also need to budget for airport or station transfers, parking, tolls, ferries, cable cars or other local transport, depending on your plans.

Not every elopement needs complicated logistics. Choosing accommodation close to your ceremony and photography locations can reduce both transport costs and the amount of your day spent travelling.

COST TO ELOPE IN ITALY BY REGION

Where you choose to elope can have a significant impact on your overall budget. Accommodation, private venue fees, transport and local logistics vary considerably across Italy, while some supplier costs are relatively similar from one region to another.

The ranges below are useful for understanding how different destinations compare, but they are planning ranges rather than fixed package prices. Your final cost will depend on the type of experience you create, your accommodation, ceremony choice and any private venues or additional experiences you include.

Tuscany Elopement Cost

What to budget: €8,000–€16,000+

Tuscany can offer excellent flexibility because you can choose between countryside accommodation, historic towns, natural locations and private estates. An elopement based around an agriturismo and outdoor symbolic ceremony can remain relatively simple, while private villas, exclusive estates and legally binding ceremonies in prestigious municipal venues can increase the budget considerably.

Best for: couples who want rolling countryside, historic towns, relaxed travel and plenty of choice between simple and more elaborate experiences.

Amalfi Coast Elopement Cost

Couple walking through the chiostro of Grand Hotel Convento in Amalfi on their Amalfi Coast elopement

What to budget: €12,000–€22,000+

The Amalfi Coast tends to be one of the more expensive elopement destinations in Italy, particularly during high season. Accommodation, private terraces and venues, boats and transport between the coastal towns can all add considerably to the overall cost.

You don’t necessarily need a private venue, however. A symbolic ceremony in a beautiful public location combined with carefully chosen accommodation and simpler logistics can keep the experience considerably more cost-balanced.

Best for: couples who want dramatic coastal scenery, Mediterranean towns, boat experiences and beautiful boutique hotels.

The Amalfi Coast offers some truly spectacular settings; however, it’s essential that your photographer and planner know how to navigate the crowds. For this reason, we most often recommend eloping in the Amalfi Coast during the off-season, when you can truly enjoy your day to the fullest.

Lake Como Elopement Cost

What to budget: €12,000–€26,000+

Lake Como can vary enormously in price. An elopement based around one of the lake towns with a symbolic ceremony and private boat is very different financially from an experience involving exclusive access to a historic villa or private lakeside venue.

Private boats can add several hundred euros or more depending on the boat and duration, while exclusive villas can add several thousand euros before accommodation and other suppliers are considered.

Best for: couples who want lake scenery, elegant towns, private boat experiences and the option of spectacular historic villas.
