A first look at dawn in Venice

We began the day with a first look at sunrise, in one of our favourite, quietly atmospheric corners of the city. At this hour, Venice feels completely different — hushed, unhurried, and deeply authentic. It’s a place where you can still sense the true soul of the city, with the water close by and the soft light of early morning setting the tone for the day.

After this emotional, private moment together, we moved slowly through the city, letting the sunrise guide us. The light was gentle and golden, and we took our time wandering towards Palazzo Ducale, pausing whenever something caught our eye. As Piazza San Marco gradually came to life, we captured heartfelt, candid portraits with the first light of the day — moments that felt natural, intimate, and entirely their own.

San Marco was still calm at that hour, giving our couple time to enjoy the being together as the morning unfolded. Before heading to the ceremony, we paused for a small breakfast in a typical caffetteria. We took a moment to breathe, and take in the excitement of what was ahead.

Symbolic Ceremony at Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo

On Alexa and Donovan’s elopement in Venice, for their symbolic ceremony, we chose Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, one of the most unique and intimate elopement locations in the city.

Set in the historic centre, this architectural treasure features a spiral staircase and sweeping views across the rooftops and canals. It strikes the perfect balance of romance, privacy and Venetian character — making it ideal for couples looking for:

– A quiet, symbolic ceremony in Venice

– A romantic and unforgettable setting

– A location with beautiful light and architecture

The soft natural light and structured arches created a stunning backdrop.

As photographers and planners, we love it because it offers privacy and atmosphere without needing to leave the city centre.

Venice Elopement: Exploring Venice’s Hidden Canals

After the ceremony, we took our time wandering through some of Venice’s quieter, lesser-known neighbourhoods — places we return to again and again because of the light, the rhythm of the city, and how they feel to be in.

Knowing Venice intimately allows us to gently guide couples to corners of the city that are:

Peaceful, even during the busiest months
Authentic, where everyday local life still unfolds
– Naturally beautiful and deeply atmospheric
– Rarely featured in guidebooks

This is how we approach elopements in Venice: unhurried, personal, and shaped around the true character of the city — leaving space for quiet moments, connection, and a sense of being somewhere truly special.

A Romantic Sunset Boat Tour on an Elopement in Venice

We ended the day with a private sunset boat tour — a quiet, intimate way to bring a Venice elopement to a close. From the water, the city reveals a completely different side of itself. As the sun begins to set, domes and bell towers glow softly, the lagoon turns golden, and the pace of the city seems to slow. It’s a moment that feels both deeply emotional and timeless.

A sunset boat ride is one of our favourite ways to end an elopement in Venice because it creates space to pause, breathe, and simply be together. It offers:

Complete privacy, away from the crowds
– Soft, unforgettable light as day fades into evening
Perspectives of Venice that simply aren’t possible from land
– A calm, romantic ending to an already meaningful day

Planning your own intimate elopement in Venice

If you’re dreaming of an elopement in Venice, our strongest advice is to plan your day thoughtfully around a few key elements:

Light — allowing it to shape the mood and rhythm of the day
Timing — choosing moments when the city feels calm and unhurried
Quiet corners — places known mostly to locals, where Venice feels intimate and alive

With the right approach, Venice can be one of the most peaceful and emotionally rich cities in Italy to get married in. Away from the crowds, it reveals a softer side — one defined by stillness, beauty, and atmosphere.
